Soundproof Window Prices
Soundproof window prices range from $225 for simple inserts with professional installation to $2000 for installed high end replacements. This is obviously a huge difference in price - factors that will determine what you pay include whether you go with inserts or replacement frames, the size of the frame, the manufacturer or brand, the glass package you opt for and the method of installation they require.
Soundproof Inserts (Excluding Installation)
Inserts fit either in front of or behind the existing window and often have a 0.25" window pane and frame that is placed inside hte existing sill. These inserts can be purchased at most home improvement stores for $75 to $150, while some higher end inserts use better quality glass, frame and glazing options that can run up to $300 for the unit itself without installation.
Soundproof Plugs
Soundproofing plugs typically cost $25 to $75 depending on the size, shape and density of the foam. There is no cost associated with the installation of foam plugs, but there are some downsides to this solution that homeowners should be aware of before purchasing.
Soundproof Replacement Windows
Mid range replacements should have a relatively high STC rating (40 to 45 at this price point) or soundproof rating. However, they might not even be considered soundproofing windows in this range. They will usually be a high end vinyl or fiberglass - pay for the upgraded foam fills to help out a bit with the noise.
High End Replacements
High end replacements should have a high STC (45 to 54 at this price point) or soundproof rating. The window should be billed and built as a soundproof window for the money you are spending here.
Installation Cost
Window installation cost may run as low as $35 for simple inserts (the foam plugs have no installation cost associated with them) that sit in front of or outside of the existing window. Openings that require repair or replacement work to the sills or the jambs require a full frame replacement which can run upwards of $250 per opening. The average installation cost is $125 per opening.
